Our Sheriffs jumped right back into learning today after fall break. From drumming in music to small group reading and multi-sensory phonics lessons, our classrooms were full of energy, smiles, and the best kind of noise — the sound of learning. 5th graders are learning about the Constitutional Convention in Social Studies. They took on a new identity as delegates at the convention and reenacted the delegates from Virginia proposing the Virginia Plan. #SouthsideIsTheBestSide #LevelUp #LearningIsRequired

This week, the essential question for reading in kindergarten was, "How do tools help us learn?" To end the week, students applied what they learned by practicing with different tools. This week is all about showing respect, building connections, and standing up against bullying. Our students will learn how to recognize signs of loneliness, reach out to others, and remember the power of a simple hello.

Here’s how we’ll celebrate each day, Sept. 15–19:
🔵 Monday – Wear dots & spots to show creativity and courage!
🧢 Tuesday – Hats off to kids who stand up for others!
💚 Wednesday – Be seen in green and greet someone by name.
🤝 Thursday – Reach out & connect—wear your favorite color!
🟠🔵 Friday – MC Fan Day! Wear orange and blue as we pledge to include everyone.

📅 Tuesday, September 9 is High Attendance Day in Kentucky!
We’re challenging every Southside Sheriff to Level Up Your Attendance by being at school—on time and ready to learn! 🎮✨

Students who show up will get a special visit from the Murray Bank Ice Cream Truck 🍦, chances at some fun giveaways 🎁, and any class with 100% attendance and no tardies will unlock an EXTRA RECESS! 🛝

High Attendance Day is more than just a celebration—it’s a reminder that showing up every day is the key to success in school and beyond. Let’s aim for our highest score yet in attendance! 💯

Way to go, families, for making school a priority each day.

✨ If your child is running a fever or throwing up, they should stay home. But, did you know?
*Missing just 2 days a month can make it harder for students to learn to read.
*Even a few absences every couple of weeks can cause kids to fall behind.
*Good attendance builds habits that help students succeed not only in elementary school, but in high school, college, and beyond.

🌱✨ Our STEM students are “leveling up” their learning in the garden! Right now, they’re busy planting and cultivating lettuce 🥬 and radishes 🌱. But this project is about more than just growing vegetables—it’s about growing skills. Students are using science to understand plant life cycles, math to measure spacing and growth, and literacy as they document and reflect on the process. They’re also practicing important skills like teamwork, patience, responsibility, and problem-solving. #LevelUp #SouthsideIsTheBestSide #LearningIsRequired
